BERWICK Rotary exchange student Melissa Westland was guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Berwick’s 6 April meeting.
Melissa captivated her audience with tales of her year in Switzerland and experiences as an exchange student. She said she had three host families, all of whom she fell in love with.
She made some lifelong friends and travelled extensively throughout Europe.
Melissa saw snow for the first time and learned to ski. One downside was a badly injured knee while skiing, which resulted in her being airlifted to hospital.
She told of her schooling and the differing levels of schooling in different countries.
Melissa made a Powerpoint presentation showing people and places she met and visited.
She said her personal highlight was the Europatour that took her to countries including Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria and Italy.
