SCHOOL leaders were presented with their badges at Upper Beaconsfield Primary School on Monday.
Golfer Scott Laycock presented the school captains Audrey Whybrow and Liam Donovan and house captains with their badges.
Mr Laycock, whose son Joel attends the school, was the professional at Montuna Golf Club before playing on the world pro circuit.
He spoke to the children about the qualities that are essential in order to realise one’s potential.
Above all traits, he said, enjoyment and perseverance with a project had produced success for him on the Japanese circuit and another invitation to compete at this year’s British Open.
School principal Nick Karanzoulis said the student leadership team was made up of the school captains, house captains and vicecaptains as well as the junior school council.
“The JSC represents all the students on various matters to the teacher group and the school council,” he said.
“One of the team’s responsibilities is the hosting of the weekly Monday assembly.
“This experience develops the children’s leadership skills and potential, confidence in public speaking, organisation, gathering and presenting information and to be good listeners.”
The leadership team receives support and mentoring from school assistant principal Kathy Sharp.
She said the student leadership team encouraged greater student engagement with the school curriculum and a sense of belonging to the “strong community involvement ethos” of the school.
House captains and vicecaptains are Joel Gee and Charlotte Cotton and Patrick Deady and Emily La Roche (Emerald), Lachlan Williams and Caitlin Johnson and Ryan Pollard and Alice Kludas (Cardinia), Scott McQuilton and Brittany Robinson and Taylor Joyce and Arna Griffin (Guys Hill) and Tim Carroll and Aleisha Morning and Daniel Smith and Hayley Alger (Dewhurst).
Junior school councillors at Upper Beaconsfield are Olivia Keem, Sam Walker, Sophie Dillon, Emma Boyer, Allison Duggan, Emma Milne, Matt McQuilton, Luke Duffy, Ryan Kreiger, Curtis Opsblum, Andrew Zerbst and Blake Street.
