Hard slog to pay off for 4Cs

Michael Wilson and Stephen Leach are preparing to Slog to Sale on Saturday to raise money for the 4Cs Food Bank.Michael Wilson and Stephen Leach are preparing to Slog to Sale on Saturday to raise money for the 4Cs Food Bank.

IT’S no smooth ride, but Pakenham cyclists slogging to Sale will sweat in the saddle for a worthy cause.
More than 60 people will ride the 160 kilometres down the Princes Highway this Saturday as a fundraiser for the 4Cs (Cardinia Combined Churches Caring) Emergency Food Bank.
The Slog to Sale is one of the main fundraisers for the Food Bank and last year raised about $6000 for the vital charity service.
This year, ride organiser Michael Wilson hopes to raise a record $10,000.
“It’s getting bigger and bigger,” Mr Wilson said of the event, now in its third year.
“We’ve got more riders than we’ve ever had and businesses are really jumping on board too, which is great.”
Cyclists will depart Pakenham at 7.30am and should start arriving in Sale about lunchtime. One of the participants will ride a unicycle for the last few kilometres. A tandem pair are also expected to take part.
Mr Wilson said he would love to be able to speak about the hours of hard training that had been part of his preparations for the big day.
“Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much,” he said. “We’re going to be pretty sore.”
Mr Wilson paid tribute to GBA Computers, Bears Bikes and other local groups and organisations for their support.
