KOOWEERUP horseman Daryl Woolcock’s great run of success continued with another winner Heeza Hudson at Warragul last Friday.
Woolcock has enjoyed plenty of success with horses such as Pepperell Dancer, Hudson Pacemaker and Hudson Jet this year and Heeza Hudson added to the haul last Friday.
In the process, Heeza Hudson took the lead in the Neerim South Quarry Horse of the Year title at Warragul and booked a spot in the Provincial Cup Final at Moonee Valley later this month.
Before last Friday’s meeting there were five horses tied for the lead in the Horse of the Year Award. However Heeza Hudson, placed in fourth spot, leapt to the front with his victory.
Simone Walker and Jodi Quinlan both drove two winners at the meeting.
Quinlan won with Invincible Lombo and Coney Island, while Walker drove the Iona trained Full Of Aces for Des Kelly and Doolan Jack, who both started at long odds.
Leading trainerdriver pair Jayne Davies and Chris Alford also combined for a double with top filly Fususi and Gee Dee Bro. Davies now has a clear lead in the YGP Grain and Hardware Trainer of the Year title, while Alford is second in the Gippsland Septic Tanks Driver of the Year title behind Jodi Quinlan.
The pair has won 23 races between them at Warragul this season.
Its all systems go for Longwarry trotter Ronerail’s raid on the South Australian Derby this Saturday night.
Ronerail stretched his winning sequence to four with a narrow victory at Globe Derby in Adelaide last Saturday night, and should again be hard to hold out from barrier three in this weekend’s feature.
Trained by Michael Hughes for Longwarry owner Garry Rogers, one of Australia’s leading V8 motor racing identities, Ronerail will be driven in Saturday’s race by top Pakenham horseman Geoff Walker.
Ronerail is expected to go on to the Victorian Trotters Derby series, which culminates in a rich final at Maryborough in late July.
Stablemate Hot Trottin’ Rebel has accompanied Ronerail to Adelaide and finished third in the Maturity Stakes last Monday. He is also engaged on Saturday night, with local reinsman Glenn Hunter in the sulky.
Meanwhile, Hughes’ twoyearold colt Country Occasion won a qualifying heat of the prestigious Vicbred Super Series at Moonee Valley on Monday and now advances to a semifinal of the series next week.
