ENTRIES were looking strong for the final harness racing meeting of the season at Warragul on Wednesday afternoon.
The eightevent program will start at 12.43pm and numerous Gippsland horses will compete.
One that will be missing, however, is Kooweerup’s Heeza Hudson, the leader in the Warragul Horse of the Year award.
Heeza Hudson has a fourpoint lead in the title but La Venganza, one of eight horses tied for second place, needs a win on Wednesday to claim the title on a countback.
One Gippsland horse that should run well is Bullantic in the fourth event. A winner at Kilmore on 7 August, Bullantic is heading for two in a row and is likely to be driven by Jodi Quinlan.
Bullantic is trained at Longwarry by Lee Evison for a big syndicate of owners including locals Bob Baldry and Denis Shiels.
There will be free entry for patrons after 3pm at today’s meeting.
In other harness racing news, local pacer La Venganza has been scratched from today’s Warragul meeting, meaning that the chance of claiming a last minute victory in the Horse of the Year award is lost.
La Venganza needed to win this afternoon to claim the title from Heeza Hudson, who has a fourpoint break.
The scratching means Heeza Hudson will win the award, despite that he also is not running at the meeting.
There is still interest in the club’s other awards, the Trainer and Driver of the Year which will both be finalised at today’s meeting.
