Hot golf wins winter trophy

GREG Butler followed up an excellent par first round of plusfive with a solid plusone on Saturday to win the 2005 Winter Wade Trophy at Drouin Golf Club.
The forecast reduced the field to only 76 players and Greg (24) won with a total of plussix.
In the day par event, there were only enough players for two grades.
In A grade, Goran Danilov (12) returned plusfour to win by one shot from Matt Lloyd plusthree. Goran was also the runnerup in the Winter Wade with a two week total of plusfour.
Mick Rose and Mick Lithgow both had plustwo.
New to competition golf and showing lots of potential is one of the club’s ground staff Scott Dumas (29) who won B grade with plusfour.
Runnerup on a countback was Phil Edwards on plusthree from Mick Herman. Rod Clarke had plusone.
Nearest to pins – second: Peter Medwin, 5th (propin): Fred Gajdobranski, 19th: Greg Patterson, 23rd: Rex Amey.
Balls went down to plusone and the CCR was 71.

WEDNESDAY COMPETITION

The Stableford event attracted a good field of 96 players.
In A grade, Rod Hammond (nine) controlled his yips with the putter to win with 41 points from Wayne Devlin 40.
Ryan Hammond 39 could not match his dad and Phil Thompson and John Harris both had 38.
In B grade, Cleo Sahhar (16) did plenty of damage to his handicap with the highest score of the day 43.
Runnerup was Garry Eden with 37 and John Denholm had 35.
In C grade, Bob Ramage (20) with 41 points won comfortably from five players all on 36.
Colin Moss won the runnerup voucher from Peter Andreasen, Wayne Duckett, Peter Walsh and Brent Wilson.
Nearest to pins – second: Gordon Warren, 5th (propin): Wayne Duckett, 14th: Peter Devries.
Balls went down to 36 and the CCR was 72.

THURSDAY COMPETITION

There were 41 players in the seniors’ ninehole competition.
There was a threeway tie in the men’s section with Colin Moss, Eric Barrass and Doug Clark all returning 18 points. Bruce Horskins was next best on 17.
In the ladies, Shirly Todd was the runaway winner with 19 points from Sylvia Martin on 17.
No competition was held last Monday due to rain.

COMING EVENTS

A reminder of the jubilee weekend on 3 and 4 September.
The ‘Rock Around the World Show’ is still open for bookings, as is the mixed medley golf event on the Sunday. See club noticeboard for further details.

LADIES ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Last Tuesday, the Drouin Women Golfers held their annual general meeting.
President Bernace welcomed members and thanked the outgoing office bearers and committee for their help during the year.
She also thanked the many ladies who give their time each week to help in a variety of ways.
There was a special vote of thanks to vicepresident Jean Yeowart, captain Karen Adams, and secretary Di Baskett, who have retired from their official duties after giving an excellent contributions to the club.
Life member Edna Cropley presented the following ladies with their badges of office: president Bernace Miller, vicepresident Di Sullivan, captain Shirley Todd, vicecaptain Mary Tymensen, secretary Mary Clark, treasurer Margaret Mitchem and handicapper Glenda Warren.

After the meeting closed, an Ambrose event of nine holes was held.
The winners were Irene Morgan, Jenni Harris, Robyn Eacott and Olive Reid with a score of 25 3/8 nett.
The runnersup were Margaret Purcell, Poss Leeson and Ruth Waring with 26 1/3 nett.
The Thursday ninehole seniors’ competition was won by Shirley Todd with 19 points and the runnersup were Sylvia Martin with 17 points and Lorna Hoskins with 16 points.
This week is foursomes championships 27 holes, sponsored by Lights Fans ‘n’ Things and next week will be Par.
