THE Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League Sharks senior netball team went down to the powerful Hampden League by 10 goals at Berwick on Sunday.
The 5040 scoreline was an improvement by the Sharks who went down to the Hampden League, beaten by 13 goals in the 2005 Pool B final.
Defender Stacey McConnell and goalshooter Sarah Murphy were the outstanding players for the Sharks, while Alison Allan and Jasmine Maddocks were also in good form, creating scoring opportunities with regularity.
In the first 17andunder interleague contest, the Hampden League girls again proved too strong, netting a comfortable 15goal victory over the young MPNFL.
Sarah Kernot, Megan Ellett and Tarryn Darby were named as the Sharks’ best players.
Coach Shona Osborne, at the postmatch awards presentation said that the junior girls, who would benefit from the experience, had presented themselves with pride and played a great game.
MPNFL netball coordinator Glenn Hanafin congratulated the Sharks teams and said the initiation of a 17andunder side was a major step in the right direction for the league.
