THIS month’s rich Australasian Breeders’ Crown harness racing series has a Gippsland flavour, with twoyearold filly Jazzam in contention.
Jazzam won a qualifying heat of the series at Geelong late last month, defeating the highly rated New Zealand filly Top Tempo.
Last Friday night she recorded another tough victory. The gritty filly won narrowly at Moonee Valley, her first Melbourne victory. Bred and owned by Neerim South couple John and Kath Fusinato and their son Greg, Jazzam possesses loads of talent. Her career record stands at three wins and two placings from seven starts.
Semifinals of the Breeders’ Crown will be run at Ballarat next Tuesday night, where Jazzam is rated a good chance again.
Given a good result, she will progress to the final at Ballarat the following Sunday. That race is worth $275,000, one of the richest country events for the year.
Local racing returns to Warragul on Wednesday, 16 August.
