HANDS up if Jim’s an inspiration!
Jim Asimakopoulos has had cerebral palsy since he was born, but it has been no barrier to a remarkable life.
Jim is regarded as a powerful motivator and role model for young children and shared his inspirational message with students from Pakenham Hills Primary School on Monday.
School assistant principal John Legione said Jim, a regular visitor to Pakenham Hills, was highly respected by students and teachers.
Jim says he is a sports fanatic and demonstrated his skills in and out of his wheelchair.
“Cerebral palsy affects the way my muscles move but I am strong and healthy,” he said.
“I can think, feel and move around on my own. I have a job, I am married to my wife Connie and have three stepchildren.”
Jim is the manager of the Department of Education and Training’s abilities and disability awareness program.
He received an Order of Australia Medal in this year’s Queen’s Birthday honours.
