WEST Gippsland Cricket Association’s under16 representative team defeated the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association (MPCA) side in their contest at Frankston on Sunday.
The match was played on the main Frankston Peninsula Premier ground in perfect conditions.
West Gippsland won the toss and bowled, restricting the MPCA to 7/200 after their allocated 50 overs.
Bowling honours were shared for the WGCA, Sam Cole taking 2/15 from six overs and Ryan Wilby took 2/26 off five overs.
Troy McDermott and Jack Ryan also finished with one wicket apiece, while Sean Wilson had the excellent figures of five overs for six runs and Jack Benbow toiled hard in his 10 overs for 41 runs.
MPCA’s M. Foon was run out for a well made 95.
The WGCA team replied with 5/212 from 47 overs.
The winning runs came from a mighty six straight over the bowler’s head by Benbow.
Batting contributions included Matt Cooper with 14, Matt Andrews (18), Sean Wilson (59), Dustin Peebles (30), Troy McDermott (20), Andrew Martin (18 not out) and Benbow’s undefeated 26.
Troy McDermott and Dustin Peebles were appointed cocaptains of the winning team and did a fine job.
Frankston Peninsula Heat Cricket Club provided the facilities and also lunch and drinks for players and officials.
