DROUIN Dragons’ Legends soccer side played a mixture of today’s Dragons players on Sunday at their home ground in Drouin and won a thrilling game, four goals to three.
The Legends started well through Daniel Cairns, who dominated, and the midfield experience of Eamen O’Hare helped put the first goal on the board within 10 minutes when Clinton Teisler scored.
The Dragons came back solidly but ran into resistaqnce from defender Stuart Dalton.
The Legends soon had goal number two on the board with a brilliant passage of play through Leonard Heinrich, who took on four opponents and played the ball to young gun Cairns, who scored.
The Legends then fell asleep, the Dragons scoring three times in 10 minutes to go into the halftime break with the lead.
In the second half the Legends came out firing with Simon Mitchell and Andre DeLigt combining well in the midfield to put the ball at the feet of Cairns who levelled the scores.
Both teams fought hard in the last 20 minutes, the ball going from end to end.
With only two minutes to go the Legends went forward and Heinrich shot into the top right corner of the goal, leaving the Dragons’ goalkeeper without a chance and giving his side a great victory.
Excoach O’Hare was voted best afield by the coaches after a great game in midfield.
