IN one of its best games for two seasons, Pakenham seniors downed Doveton in a thrilling game by seven points on Saturday.
After losing to Narre Warren the previous week, the Lions travelled to Paperbark Street to play Doveton who hadn’t lost a game in 23 matches.
With the aid of the breeze in the first quarter, the Lions went into the first break with a 29point lead.
This could have been greater, but for inaccurate kicking in front of goal.
The second quarter saw Doveton spark up and play the running, team football it has been accustomed to over the past few years.
The Doves kicked seven goals to two and went in to the main break with a lead of two points.
The game then became an arm wrestle with both sides trying to gain the ascendancy.
Being 10 points down and kicking to the nonscoring end, Pakenham managed to keep the opposition goalless and kicked two goals, seven behinds.
Lincoln Withers again dominated the play, Justin Sutherland is having his best start to the year, controlling the game from the ruck all day.
Dima was lively up forward, as was Beau Wheeler. Seb Paynter and Jared Goldsack also played big roles in the win.
