IN one of its best games for two seasons, Pakenham seniors downed Doveton in a thrilling game by seven points on Saturday.
After losing to Narre Warren the previous week, the Lions travelled to Paperbark Street to play Doveton who hadn’t lost a game in 23 matches.
With the aid of the breeze in the first quarter, the Lions went into the first break with a 29point lead.
This could have been greater, but for inaccurate kicking in front of goal.
The second quarter saw Doveton spark up and play the running, team football it has been accustomed to over the past few years.
The Doves kicked seven goals to two and went in to the main break with a lead of two points.
The game then became an arm wrestle with both sides trying to gain the ascendancy.
Being 10 points down and kicking to the nonscoring end, Pakenham managed to keep the opposition goalless and kicked two goals, seven behinds.
Lincoln Withers again dominated the play, Justin Sutherland is having his best start to the year, controlling the game from the ruck all day.
Dima was lively up forward, as was Beau Wheeler. Seb Paynter and Jared Goldsack also played big roles in the win.
Pakenham will play Tooradin at Tooradin this Saturday for the first time in the new league.
Scores: Pakenham 13.16.94 d Doveton 13.9.87.

RESERVES

Pakenham let Doveton out of the blocks early to be trailing by seven goals at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Lions outscore the opposition, but the game had already been lost and they eventually went down by 12 goals.
Chad Ambrose provided plenty of spark in the midfield as did Darren Boyd. Shane Laszczyk and Paul Gramc both tried gallantly up forward in the trying conditions.
Scores: Doveton 19.7.121 d Pakenham 7.7.49.

UNDER 18

Travelling to Doveton to play their highly fancied opponents, the Lions had a huge task ahead of them and to their credit, fought the game out.
Even going down by 23 goals, there were some positives signs. James Daly was adjudged best a field in a sound performance and Dom Paynter was his usual busy self. Ben Arapu gathered many possessions while Stefan Krull kicked two goals in an encouraging game.
Scores: Doveton 25.14.164 d Pakenham 3.4.22.
