COCKATOO’S finest firefighters were honoured at the brigade’s annual presentation night in Upper Beaconsfield last month.
Members of the vital community group were joined by firefighters from other local CFA teams including the Emerald, Maryknoll, Pakenham Upper and Berwick units.
Cockatoo CFA captain Stephen Cameron and firefighter Terry Morton were presented with National Medals for their dedicated service to the brigade.
Mr Cameron said National Medals were awarded to members of organisations who risked their welfare to protect the life and property of others.
“Fifteen years’ eligible service is necessary to qualify for the medal and clasps are available for each additional 10year period,” Mr Cameron said.
Firefighter John Streeter and former captain Graham Simpson were both awarded a National Medal with firstclasp honours and communications officer Graham den Hartogh received his National Medal with a first and second clasp.
Other firefighters to be honoured during the night were Andrew Smith, who was presented with his 12year badge, and Lieutenant Patsy Parnall received the brigade award for officer of the season.
Julian Ketskemety was also honoured for his dedication to the Cockatoo CFA by receiving the brigade award for firefighter of the season.
