
THE first ever ‘have a go day’ at Beaconhills Country Golf Club on Wednesday last week was described a great success.
Forty beginner guests were teamed with members for nine holes of foursomes plus much fun and laughter.
Golf was followed by champagne and lunch under the verandah.
Winners on the front nine were Marg Rice and her guest Dianne Rainbow who scored a gross 51, nett 34 1/2.
Lesley Paterson and her guest Margaret Phelan scored gross 56, nett 36 1/2 to win the back nine.
Nearest the pins were won by Sally Kunz (member) and Colleen Hobson (guest) on the sixth and Lesley Paterson (member) and Tony Shovelton (guest) on the 15th.
RAFFLE WINNERS
Peter Lockman drew Beacon-hills’ major raffle on Saturday and members nearly scooped the pool.
Member Ray Diss won first prize, a plasma television and, as he had sold the winning ticket to himself, next year’s subscription free.
Member Kev Candy sold the second place ticket to Croydon Carpet Disposals.
Second prize was a much-coveted Outdoor kitchen.
The cutlery set was won by member Herb Trobbiani, the six golf lessons with Mark Griffin were won by member Alan Davidson and the dinner for two at Strawberry Terrace went to member Ray Doyle.
TUESDAY RESULTS
The competition was Stableford.
Winner Bob Gordon (11) scored 40 points to win on a countback from president Doug Eastick (17).
THURSDAY RESULTS
The winner in A grade was David Crowe (6) 42 points and David Warnock (21) 45 points.
SATURDAY RESULTS
On Saturday Russell D’arcy won the Old course Par competition with plus-6.
The three grade winners on the Lakes were A grade: Travis O’Neill (12) plus-8 on a countback, B grade: Russ Shawe (17) plus-7 and C grade: Les Johns (20) plus-5.
SUNDAY RESULTS
Stableford was played on the Lakes. Jim Kelly (14) won A grade with 40 points and 14-year-old Shane Pritchard (22) won B Grade with 41 points.
The first round of the mixed foursomes championships was also played.
Father-and-daughter team Steve and Kim Murray posted the best nett to win the daily competition with nett 60.
Leaders after the first round are the defending champions Ann Felgate and Andrew Conn who shot 77 gross.
