The planned improvements to Lyall Road, Berwick include a fourlane carriageway and various streetscape improvements.BERWICK residents will soon be presented with a picturesque Lyall Road complete with four lanes to ease traffic congestion.
The improvements will take place between High Street and Brisbane Street and are part of the City of Casey’s improved road capacity program.
The reconstructed road is set to have dedicated right and leftturn lanes into abutting streets to enable traffic to flow freely.
More than 65 new trees will complement the new carriageway, which is set to include extensive landscaping and street lighting to beautify the area.
Workers will have to remove 19 established trees to accommodate the widening.
Members of the Berwick Chamber of Commerce have long campaigned for the section of the road to be upgraded and are delighted construction will soon begin.
Chamber president Michael Hall said the upgrades to Lyall Road were long overdue and would improve the current traffic situation immensely.
“One thing we are really pushing for is the streetscape works in Lyall Road to be along the similar theme to what already appears in High Street,” Mr Hall said.
“It will benefit the Berwick community in a number of ways and traders in the area are very happy the upgrades will soon take place,” he said.
