AN honour board commemorating Lang Lang’s Australia Day award winners was launched as a highlight of the town’s celebrations last Thursday.
Lang Lang community bank chairman Max Papley – a former Cardinia Shire citizen of the year – officially unveiled the honour board, which will take pride of place at the memorial hall.
The board lists the names of all Lang Lang’s award winners since the shire’s first Australia Day celebration in 1998.
Hundreds of people enjoyed the national birthday celebrations, which began on a hearty note with breakfast provided by the Lang Lang Scouts.
Media personality Tony Charlton provided a thoughtprovoking Australia Day address and Cardinia Shire councillor Doug Hamilton presented community achievement awards to Dr Orrock Stewart and Inez Stewart as well as Russell Gardiner.
The Australia Day blessing was conducted by Reverend Sally Boothey, Anne Jubb led the singing of the national anthem and the popular Lang Lang Community singers, ably led by Lisa Gregorovich, treated patrons to a rousing rendition of Waltzing Matilda.
