YOUNG Gippsland horsemen Michael Hughes and Glenn Hunter collected two winners apiece at last Thursday’s Warragul trots program.
The pair combined with the talented Hot Trottin’ Rebel in race two, while Michael also prepared Flighty Lisa to win later in the program, driven by former top South Australian horseman Geoff Webster.
Second in that race was Heeza Hudson, however that minor placing increased his lead in the Horse of the Year title slightly, with one meeting remaining.
Glenn Hunter also trained and drove Empathize to win the third race.
It was his mare’s first victory at start 38, a testament to her trainer’s patience.
Another Gippsland winner was Iona mare Full Of Aces, who, despite having won at the previous Warragul meeting, was sent out at odds of 33/1.
Strong entries produced good racing all day, despite a rainaffected track and overcast weather.
Racing returns to Warragul on Wednesday, August 16.
Pair trot out double wins
