CARDINIA Shire Council has started planning for an extension to the Cardinia LiFE centre to double the area available for play.
Cardinia mayor Kate Lempriere said it was time to start stage two of the centre’s upgrade following the completion of the indoor pools and health facilities last year.
“Part of the council’s strategic plans for the Cardinia LiFE sports and recreation facility is the inclusion of the extension of the existing four court stadium,” Cr Lempriere said.
“People will be able to enjoy the convenience of four more courts and a multi purpose program room, new change spaces and storage areas.”
Cr Lempriere said the additions would enable more people to pursue and participate in healthy activity and competition in a safe, friendly environment. The design features of the extension include an air circulation system, dividing walls between the two blocks of four courts and some acoustic controls.
Other items, such as fitting air handling to the existing courts, cladding the stadium and installing structural roof sections above the proposed multipurpose room are also being considered to enhance the facilities.
The extension to the stadium will not affect current activities and any inconvenience will be shortlived, according to the council.
The council will consider submissions for the work contract this month.
Once the contract is awarded, work is expected to start in May subject to council approval.
It is scheduled to be completed this year.
