Radio chick trip winners ‘desperate’ for good time

KATE Hands is a ‘desperate housewife’ – and she’s won a competition to prove it.
The Pakenham mum has scored a berth on a ‘chick trip’ to Hong Kong with several other lucky women in a competition on Melbourne radio station Nova 100.
Emerald’s Josie Powell is also going, after radio listeners voted her the best ‘whingeing mole’.
Nova host Kate Langbroek will lead the trip and the station is hosting a competition to pick the best ‘desperate housewife’, ‘never say no party girl’, ‘sensible Susan’ and ‘whingeing mole’ to go along.
Kate Hands, who has three young children, won her spot last week in rather unusual fashion.
She was invited to the radio station’s studio where she and two other contestants were treated to a friendly strip from either a ‘cowboy’, ‘fireman’ or ‘police officer’.
Kate chose the cowboy, who shed his outfit to reveal the prizewinning underpants, much to the Pakenham woman’s delight – and embarrassment.
“Of all the people, I took my mum along with me,” she said.
“Second to my husband (Warren), she is about the only person I wouldn’t want to see me get a lapdance.”
Kate’s children Claudia, 9, Michael, 6, and Lachlan almost 2, and Warren were also thrilled with the win, although Kate said it might take her a while to live down her ‘desperate housewife’ tag.
Josie scored her place on what both women rate as the trip of a lifetime by proving that when it comes to giving the boyfriend grief she is master of her domain.
Josie said she initially entered the competition as a bit of fun, not expecting to win.
She was chosen from five finalists who had to whinge about their boyfriends in a random scenario – Josie’s was her man arriving two hours late for a romantic dinner.
Listeners contacted the radio station to vote for the best whinger.
“It was all just a bit of fun and I didn’t expect to win,” Josie said.
“I screamed and even shed a tear when I heard. It was just amazing.”
The group sets sail for the Orient on Thursday, 17 August.
This week, the search is on for the party girl.
