Riding is just Ryan’s speed

FOR most of us, 247 kilometres an hour is fast enough.
But for Pakenham motorbike racer Ryan Taylor, one more click on the speedo would have been so much sweeter.
Taylor was racing at Phillip Island in the Superstock class of the Australian Superbike Championship last weekend when he came so close to registering the fastest speed down the long straight.
Roaring along on his Yamaha R6 600 at 247 kmh, Taylor was just one kilometre short of equalling the fastest flat-out speed set by a competitor.
But isn’t 247 km/h fast enough?
“It would have been nice to squeeze the extra kilometre out of the bike.
“But I had traffic around me coming into the straight on most laps,” Taylor said.
His best result of the weekend was a ninth placing in race seven.
Taylor won the Victorian titles earlier this year and, having just completed the Australian series, is looking forward to getting back to the racetrack.
“I’ll put the bike away for a while then start getting the new one together in January before the season starts in February,” he said.
And Taylor already knows how he will find that elusive kilometre that went missing down the Phillip Island.
“My great sponsors, Yamaha Pakenham will be helping me out with my new bike and gear,” Taylor said.
