WHEN Rocky Crisafi ventured to Sandown Park last Thursday night, to watch the running of the Melbourne Greyhound Cup, he never imagined rolling home in a brand new Nissan Pulsar.
The Officer resident won the Gary Lechte Nissan competition, which attracted most of the on-course spectators.
Rocky’s was one of the eight names drawn in the first round, but he had to draw a greyhound from the Cup field that would carry his hopes of driving home the car.
Rocky drew Closing Argument, second favourite behind Bond, and he knew he was in with a chance.
“I liked Closing Argument from the start, I wouldn’t have swapped it for Bond,” he said.
Rocky felt confident he knew how the race would unfold, despite Bond running the third fastest recorded time two weeks ago in a Cup heat at Sandown Park.
“Closing Argument had box one and Bond had two. I always thought Bond was going to be squeezed up around the first corner,” he said.
Gary Lechte said he loved giving away cars, and thought the competition was a great idea.
“I like to say I give cars away for a living,” Gary said with a laugh. “It’s great though, I hope Rocky enjoys his new Nissan.”
There was time for Rocky to say a quick thanks to his new favourite dog before accepting the car and, as he rolled away he had one final word for now favourite car dealer: “See you next year, Gary.”
