KOOWEERUP Primary School is set to receive a $150,000 government grant to modernise its outdated facilities.
The money is part of the State Government’s $2.2million school improvement program.
School principal David Payne is excited about the grant and hopes that it is one of many that the school receives to improve dated and cramped facilities.
“The $150,000 grant to upgrade and improve our administration facilities is great news for the school and long overdue,” Mr Payne said.
Mr Payne said the exact details of the project were yet to be discussed.
However he is already in talks with the Education Department and local politicians to gain further grants to improve school and teaching facilities.
“The school council will continue to pursue its major goal of having all facilities in the school upgraded,” he said.
“Our students are continuing to learn in classrooms that are undersized and outdated and believe that we are overdue for assistance in this area also.”
Member for Western Port Province Geoff Hilton said the grant would improve facilities at the school and ensure that students had access to a modern learning environment.
“Kooweerup Primary School is one of 20 schools across the state which will benefit from this $2.2million round of the Government’s school improvement program.
“The funds will be used to modernise the learning and teaching areas, which will support and encourage initiatives that improve student learning outcomes and raise community expectations.
“The modernisation of the administration area will provide a focus for the community and support staff’s organisational health,” Mr Hilton said.
