Scorpions toss top Bullants

AFTER a stinging loss at North Ballarat in round five, when most Casey Scorpions felt a win had escaped them, the Scorpions ran over the top of top side Northern Bullants.
The Scorpions gambled on a small running side to take on the Bullants’ size, anticipating rain.
The Bullants had six players over 197 centimetres in height and their runandchip possession game was proving difficult to shut down until the heavens opened in the second quarter and the Scorpions took control. They kicked 8.4 to the Bullants’ 1.4 for the quarter, which set up the game for the home side.
The Scorpions were never headed and held on to a 17point margin, St Kilda ruckman Michael Rix proving that he is the premier ruckman in the VFL.
Scores: Casey Scorpions 16.11.107 d Northern Bullants 13.12.90.
Goals: S. Milne, D. Biagi, J. Sweeney 3, S. Powell 2, N. Carmody, D. Rigg, M. McGough, B. Fraser, M. Hobbs 1.
Best: M. Rix, B. Heenan, K. Matthews, S. Powell, M. McGough, D. Biagi.

RESERVES

The Scorpions struggled to adjust to the wet and slippery conditions at Casey Fields on Sunday but gallantly fought back from a fivegoal deficit to be defeated by 14 points. Narre Warren boy Brad Scalzo was among the best while St Kilda rookie Dylan Pfitzner was best on ground, kicking two goals.
Scores: Northern Bullants 13.12.90 d Casey Scorpions 11.10.76.
