Jonathan Dalziel, Daniel McCormack, Kira Kennedy and Ryland Hodgson recently attended Government House to receive the Queen’s Scout Award.
It is the first time Kooweerup has had four recipients of the award in one year.
Jonathan is also the third in his family to receive the honour, following in the footsteps of brother Bryan and sister Alyson.
Daniel is the second in his family, following his brother Michael.
The foursome have worked for between three and four years covering over 400 hours of activity in four key areas to earn the award.
“Scouting offers challenging personal skill development as well as having fun,” Jonathan said.
“It’s a part of life I’ve really enjoyed and valued. Better than sitting in front of the TV or playing computer games,” he said.
Personal growth, adventurous activities, leadership development and community involvement make up the award framework.
The scouts undertook several activities of community benefit, including tree planting with Westernport Landcare and community service with cubs and organisations such as the local CFA brigade.
They also enjoyed activities such as hikes, canoeing trips, caving and other challenges.
Formal leadership training was required and they also participated in public speaking training through Toast Masters.
