REMEMBRANCE Day celebrations at Kooweerup will this year be marked by a blast from the past.
Teenager Darcy Manks will sound the Last Post with a bugle that was made in 1916 and is believed to have been used during World War I.
The bugle is on loan to the school and will be a centrepiece of Kooweerup’s memorial service at the school hall this Friday, 11 November.
Darcy, a student in year nine at Kooweerup Secondary College, said he was a little nervous but honoured to be playing such a big part in the service.
Services will be held around the district, including Pakenham and Berwick, to honour the sacrifice of Australia’s armed services.
Another local feature of Remembrance Day will be the dedication of the new war memorial at Tynong.
The memorial in Railway Avenue will be unveiled at a special ceremony starting at 10.15 am.
