STEP aside Bob the Builder, there’s a new star on the construction site.
And she’s in the running for a major industry gong.
Sharon Coates, who works for Delfin, has been nominated for the annual National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) awards.
Ms Coates is a production manager at the fastgrowing Lakeside at Pakenham residential estate.
The NAWIC awards, announced in August, encourage and reward women for excellence in the construction industry.
Ms Coates said she was honoured to be nominated.
“Given that the awards recognise women in different areas of construction — all of whom do an outstanding job — it is an honour,” she said.
Ms Coates said she was also honoured that her peers considered her commitment and effort to the Lakeside project to be significant.
NAWIC state president Collette Burke said the key to success in the construction industry — for men and women — was to get involved.
“We encourage and applaud proactive people who are willing to network and learn from one another,” she said.
