A NEW shopping centre is coming to Pakenham.
Cardinia Shire Council on Monday approved plans for the $12 million development on the Heritage Springs estate.
A supermarket and 15 speciality shops are the centrepiece of the complex on the corner of Henry and McGregor roads. A 120berth childcare centre was also approved.
A chemist, bakery and cafe are among likely businesses in the centre.
Councillors said the shopping complex would be an asset for residents in the fastgrowing area. Cr Doug Hamilton said it would fill a need in the community.
Cr Bill Pearson said it was good to see developers providing the important infrastructure needed to “round out” residential areas.
Heritage Springs developer Andrew Facey welcomed the council’s decision. Mr Facey said the development was estimated to cost about $12 million.
Mr Facey said he was proud of Heritage Springs’ reputation as one of the leading residential developments in the area. “The intent has always been to create something that will last 100 years and still look nice,” he said.
The shopping complex will be built next to the new Pakenham South Primary School, funding for which was announced by the State Government last month.
Mr Facey said he hoped construction would begin in October or November and the opening take place late next year.
