NYORA Raceway is expecting a crowd of up to 5000 this Saturday night when it hosts round four of the World Series Sprintcar following a sixyear hiatus from the event.
The track’s return to the series comes after the withdrawal of the round in Warrnambool, which created an irresistible opportunity for Nyora.
Lloyd Hobson headed the charge and with his committee behind him, including former threelitre racing champion Frank Ramsdale, proved successful in their bid to bring Sprintcar action back to the tight circuit.
“We’ve been negotiating for three weeks,” Ramsdale said.
“Warrnambool withdrew about six weeks ago. They have a monster truck show on the same weekend and were worried it would take too many customers away.”
There is usually a $50,000 fee to host a Sprintcar event, which goes some way to legitimising Warrnambool’s decision.
Nyora will not have to fit the bill and instead will be paid to run the event.
“We’ve just been spending time getting the track up to standard,” Ramsdale said.
Pakenham driver Tony Moule has been offered a oneoff drive in the series for the local event and will take his place in the field.
Sydney star Robbie Farr leads the series on 1781 points, from American Jason Johnson on 1754.
