ELEVEN St Francis Xavier College teachers left yesterday (Tuesday) for a tour of China.
The 10-day study tour will include Shanghai, Xian, and Beijing.
The teachers said they would be able to see exotics such as architectural history, ancient dynasty shows, and visit the “eighth wonder of the world”, the terracotta warriors and horses.
They were especially looking forward to seeing the Great Wall of China.
Teacher Satya Goundan said the school’s flexible curriculum was receptive of global trends. With China emerging as an economic giant, it was imperative that students were given education for global citizenship, he said.
“In addition, the school’s patron saint St Francis Xavier set out for China in 1552 but died on the island of Sancian before reaching the mainland.
“The tour group hopes to complete his journey and experience ancient and modern China through direct experience of the culture, and incorporate relevant aspects in the school’s dynamic curriculum,” Mr Goundan said.
The teachers thanked the college for the initiative which will give them an enriching experience and direct knowledge of the world’s most populated country.
He said this experience and knowledge would be shared with the school community.
