YEAR seven students at Pakenham Secondary College became ambassadors for local tourism last month when they presented selfmade brochures to Cardinia Shire Council members.
Year seven teacher Trish Barry said the Pakenham brochures were produced as part of a class assignment which promoted team effort.
“It’s an idea I did with a few year sevens last year,” she said.
“The project is about being able to work in a team environment.”
The brochure was made up of five sections, which encompassed five of the students’ subjects of English, maths, health, history and geography.
Year seven student Kelly said she learnt a lot about Pakenham during the threeweek project.
“I didn’t know there was another high school in Lakeside until I did this assignment,” she said.
Fellow year seven student Tyson said he also learnt a lot about Pakenham and the town’s history, while researching his brochure.
“I didn’t know Pakenham was named after Sir Edward Pakenham, an English general,” he said.
The brochures were a colourful collection of maps, history, sports facilities and statistics, and were presented by 20 year seven students to the council to be judged and awarded.
Student Amy said the project was fun to do, and the presentations went well despite running overtime.
“It was a great project to do,” she said.
