A GIANT pine tree that fell at Bunyip on Friday brought down powerlines and narrowly missed houses.
Residents in the area were shocked when the tree suddenly crashed to the ground about 10.30am, blocking the northern section of High Street.
Police, Bunyip and Longwarry CFAs and the State Emergency Service worked to clear the scene and divert traffic in the area.
CFA lieutenant Tony Ward said it was lucky the tree fell where it did.
“It could have been a disaster if it had come down onto the houses next door,” he said.
The tree, one of two pines in a vacant block, fell across a fence at the front of the property, landing on the road.
Emergency service workers remained at the scene while the road was cleared.
