ON A sunny Sunday the form side Frankston thrashed Casey Scorpions by 81 points at Frankston City Oval.
The Scorpions, their finals hopes dashed the previous week, were looking for respectability with three matches remaining. The Dolphins were in ominous form early, bolted from the blocks and kicked the first four goals, Aaron Edwards being damaging with good leading. Nigel Carmody ran into an open goal to put the Scorpions on the board but at quartertime Frankston, after a seven goalstoone quarter, led by 37 points.
In the second quarter the Scorpions began well with the first two goals, a beautiful goal on the run by Mark McGough setting things alight. But, just as the Scorpions began to build momentum, Frankston replied with further goals by Edwards and Phibbs, ensuring Frankston kept the Scorpions at bay.
The Dolphins won a more even quarter with 6.2 to 5.1 and held a commanding 44point lead at halftime.
In the third quarter the Dolphins asserted their dominance and Edwards had seven goals by threequarter time. The match was effectively over, the Dolphins kicking 6.2 to 0.3 for the quarter. The Dolphins extended their lead to 79 points at the final change.
In the final quarter, the Scorpions looked to salvage something and kicked five goals. But Edwards reached double figures in the goal tally.
