Wally wins a longdistance fan

JERIKAH Meeks could be Wally Wombat’s most long distant correspondent.
The eightyearold wrote to Wally from Oregon in the United States early this year.
She has been an avid reader of the Wally Wombat page for more than two years.
Her grandparents Joyce and Rod Gourlie of Officer have been posting the page to her every week.
“She loves colouring and the puzzles,” Mr Gourlie said. “She is a very bright girl who likes reading.”
In her letter to Wally, Jerikah shared news about her life in the United States.
“I have two cats, Joey and Tiger, a dog Charlie, and a sucker fish,” she wrote.
“My dad is a police sergeant and my mum is a supervisor at our community swimming pool.
“I am in third grade, my school is called Stayton Elementary.
“My school year starts in September and I get out in June.
“After school on Tuesdays and Thursdays I go to karate class and on Wednesdays I sometimes go to sparring.
“I do Shaolin Kempo which is a form of Chinese martial arts.
“In December I tested for my green belt. I have been doing karate since I was four and a half years old.”
Jerikah will visit Australia in her summer holidays in June and is keen to meet Wally, according to her grandfather.
Mr and Mrs Gourlie visited their daughter Rebekah and her husband Michael and Jerikah in Stayton, Oregon, last month.
Mr Gourlie said he and his wife enjoyed catching up with their granddaughter on the threeweek trip to the US.
During his visit, Mr Gourlie visited Jerikah’s class at school to talk about life in Australia.
The Gourlies also visited their son James, his wife Jennifer and their new baby Deacon.
