GEMBROOK’S Egrade team won an enthralling grand final by 44 runs against a charging Cardinia side at the weekend.
The Bulls run chase was highlighted by a defiant century from number four batsman Craig Bell, who finished with exactly 100 before falling to Brookers opening bowler Jeremy Everett.
The Brookers started shakily on Saturday against the Bulls at Pakenham Upper, but recovered well and posted the challenging total of 7/249.
Bulls’ veteran Jeff Bailey captured four wickets for Cardinia, while the Brookers’ star batsman was Andrew Shipp who scored an excellent 77 with opener Darcy Johnstone making a classy 71 in support.
The Bulls appeared to be doomed early next day when its key batsmen Bailey and Gary Quinlan fell cheaply, but a stirring century from Bell revived their hopes.
Finally, in an exciting finish, the Bulls fell 44 runs short of Gembrook’s total, giving the Brookers a wellearned premiership.
Bell was awarded grandfinal player of the match.

The Lyndhurst Vikings were under siege in the early overs of day one when Beaconsfield dominated proceedings.
The Tigers’ attack reduced them to 2/14 before rain drove the players from the field after 8.2 overs had been bowled and play was soon abandoned until Sunday.
A fighting innings of 63 from Chris Hauselberger enabled the Vikings to compile the reasonable score of 142.
However Beaconsfield reached 24 without loss in the final 14 overs of play and the Tigers are well placed to take the 200607 premiership title this week.

Chris Gunton and Craig Spicer then cruised comfortably to 32 without loss for PUT, but the game changed dramatically in the final minutes of play when the Yabbies suddenly slumped to 2/34.
Cuthbertson snared both wickets and the game appears headed for a close finish this Saturday.

Emerald’s Trevor Tilly collected a coveted hattrick to take out the manofthematch award and the Bombers easily passed the Cougar’s lowly total of 59 for the loss of only three wickets.
