WGCA quick single

Peter ‘Bunny’ O’Hare has represented both Devon Meadows and Cranbourne Meadows in his many previous seasons, and the veteran swing bowler now enjoys playing along side his son, Callum with the Clyde Agrade team. He reminisced about his 35 years in West Gippsland cricket when he chatted recently with Ian Ferguson.IF: Which West Gippsland clubs have you represented?
PO’H: Devon Meadows, Cranbourne Meadows and Clyde.

IF: Who were the best players at these clubs?
PO’H: Mark Vivian (Devon Meadows), Chris Kelsall and Steve Dalgleish (Cranbourne Meadows) and Brad Francis (Clyde), the best batsman I have seen in this competition.

IF: Who have been your most respected opponents?
PO’H: Clinton Smith and Eddie Lewis (Pakenham) and Jack Ingram (Kooweerup).

IF: How many WGCA premiership teams have you been associated with?
PO’H: One Bgrade flag with Devon Meadows and the Agrade premiership with Cranbourne Meadows.

IF: What is your most treasured memory in the WGCA?
PO’H: Being captaincoach of Cranbourne Meadows in their 198889 premiership year. We won about six games by less than five runs to squeeze into the finals and we defeated the hot favourites Beaconsfield by 10 runs in the grand final. My son was also born during that season, so it was a good year.

IF: What are your favourite local grounds?
PO’H: Devon Meadows and Beaconsfield.

IF: What have been the best features about playing for over three decades in the WGCA?
PO’H: The friendships I’ve made among both teammates and opponents.

IF: What improvements would you like to see in our competition?
PO’H: More umpires in the lower grades and more coaching opportunities for local juniors.
