TONIMBUK showjumping rider Matt Williams, now living in England, rode successfully at the Royal Windsor Horse Show last weekend.
Williams competed on two of his horses at this competition, which is a major event on the British showjumping calender.
Williams, who recently celebrated his 21st birthday, is based in Sussex and rides four Tonimbukowned horses on the European and British circuits.
Competing in the Agrade events on his 10yearold grey Holsteiner gelding Contact, Williams finished equal first in the Six Bar Competition with Peter Charles from Ireland, both riders jumping 1.95 metres. Among the other placegetters were Englandbased South African David McPherson and notable English rider John Whitaker.
Williams was invited to ride Contact in the Young Rider Grand Prix and, after jumping one of only six clear rounds in a field of 30, he was placed sixth after two rails in the second round.
He also rode his 10yearold Irishbred black gelding Kimberley in the Young Rider events, picking up an eighth place in a qualifying event.
After recent successes in Belgium and Italy, Williams was looking forward to more success on the competitive European circuit.
