Yabbies get going with the bat

PUT’s A-grade side batted well to set Devon Meadows a big target to win this week.

A GRADE

The Yabbies got a solid start thanks to openers Jason Wingrove (22) and Glenn Kilburn (12) but, soon after Shannon Price fell for 6, Josh Bardwell was adjudged lbw on 22.
At 4/69 Darren Warne and John Miller (14) stabilised the innings, putting on 65 for the fifth wicket before both fell with the score at 134. Warne’s fine knock of 51 set the scene for some compelling action after tea.
With just four wickets remaining, Luke Willis (49) and Anthony Young (76 not out) added 109 for the seventh wicket and ensured that Devon Meadows would be chasing a big target. Chris Sharpe, Ben Keane and Stuart Davis all fell in the last over going for quick runs. The innings closed on 268.

C GRADE

Facing the strong Beaconsfield at St Francis Xavier, the Yabbies were skittled for 87, Matt Keane battling hard for his 31 not out. Brett Carey made 13.
In reply the Tigers were 1/47.

D GRADE

The PUT bowlers continued their recent good form and wickets fell consistently throughout Beaconsfield’s innings.
Paul Ryan led the way with 4/26 from 20 overs and Nic Martens was also among the wickets, claiming 4/28.
Joel Gibson impressed with the gloves, effecting a sharp stumping and a leg-side catch while standing up.
The Yabbies were 1/5 in reply to Beaconsfield’s 112.

E GRADE

The Yabbies were asked to field at Tooradin, which slipped to 2/16 early.
At the tea interval, the Seagulls were on the back foot at 6/99 before adding 95 for the last four wickets and the Yabbies had to work hard to finish the tail.
Tooradin was all out for 194 from 76 overs.
Damien Garth (3/44), Rewell (2/8) and Ben Jarred (2/31) all bowled well and Jake Abel did great work in the field.

F GRADE

PUT batted first against Merinda Park and made 131 in the allotted 35 overs.
Top scorer was John Bourke with 50 retired, while Steve Impey remained not out 38 and opener Michael Wake batted well for his 13.
The Yabbies struck early to have the Cobras 2/20, but the experienced Merinda Park batsmen got on top and won by 19 runs.
Bourke completed another fine match, taking 2/14 and making a great run out, and Dave Ryan returned 2/36. Chris McKinley (1/29) was the other wicket-taker.

UNDER 16

Chasing Officer’s total of 73, the Yabbies lost Luke Gunton for eight, but Michael Wake made a fine 46, Chris Smith continued his run of form with 51 retired and Matt Cunningham added a dashing 16.
Ray Staindl (7) and Chris Bardwell (13 not out) contributed valuable runs.
PUT finished 6/168. Both coaches praised Greg Shallard and Trevor Taylor for playing with the undermanned Bullants in the true spirit of the game.

UNDER 12 BROWN

The Browns played Beaconsfield Saints at Beaconsfield and defeated Beaconsfield 92 to 88.
Top scorers for the game were Aaron Beveridge (9), Rowan Burns (9 not out) and Jake Cahir (7 not out). Among the bowlers John Shearer took 2/5, Beveridge 2/5 and Mark Cucinellow 1/3.

CLUB NOTES

The club Christmas party will be at the rooms at 7pm this Saturday, please bring a plate. A spit-roast meal is $20 a family.
Childrens’ activities, a raffle and a visit from Santa are on the program.
