PLAYING Catani away, Tooradin’s A-grade team enjoyed a solid victory over last season’s premiers.
Catani won the toss and batted first to make 7/170 in the 40 overs.
Six bowlers were used with Dean Williams returning to his best with 2/19 from eight overs.
He was well supported by some tight bowling by Callum O’Hare and Aaron Avery.
Some sharp fielding backed up the bowling.
In reply, the Seagulls lost matt Walker early, then Callum O’Hare and Aaron Avery had 107-run partnership to set up the victory.
O’Hare played a controlled innings, while Aaron was back to his best with an innings of 66 that included clean hitting and shots all round the wicket.
After losing a couple of wickets the Seagulls steadied with Ben Mantel joining O’Hare and reaching victory with five overs to spare.
O’Hare remained on 61 not-out and Mantel 24 not-out.

Tooradin played Upper Beaconsfield at home that won the toss and batted.
The first wicket came from some brilliant fielding by Adam Galea when he had a direct hit.
Tooradin was bowling very accurately and at drinks the score was 3/53 from 20 overs.
The bowling of skipper Rory Alder with 2/19 (eight overs) kept the pressure on the opposition.
He was well supported by Adam Baumgartner (1/23), Ash Adams (3/43), Ricky Holland (1/17) and Dale Bethune (1/26).
In the 40th over, Upper Beaconsfield was dismissed for 129 with David Brennan making 59.
A direct hit by Jack Barker and smart ’keeping by Justin Hinkley (two catches and one stumping) assisted by some good ground fielding supported the bowlers.
Tooradin started slowly and lost opener Andrew Sparks early. Justin Hinkley (28) was the best batsman early, but at drinks the Seagulls were 5/43 (20 overs).
Ash Adams (24) and Adam Galea (26) then had a 45-run partnership and saw the Seagulls move to 6/88.
Mick Ralph and Adam Galea then took the score to 6/114 and with four overs to go Tooradin was well placed, however two wickets in one over and two run-outs saw the Seagulls all out for 125 in the 40th over.
It was an extremely close game where the ball and fielding dominated the batting.

Tooradin travelled to Nyora and after winning the toss elected to bat.
Peter Stone and Brett Murray got off to a good start before the latter was out for 14.
Adam Richmond strode to the crease and with a boundary off his first ball his intentions were clear.
The two put on 164 for the second wicket with Richmond eventually out for a hard-hitting 104.
Peter Stone batted beautifully from start to finish to be 74 not-out.

In reply Nyora put together a couple of good partnerships, but was overcome with the Seagulls’ relentless attack.
Five Nyora batsmen failed to trouble the scorers, while skipper Darren Mantel, Daniel Wallis Tamlyn Gillespie and Peter O’Hare each claimed two wickets.
Nyora was all out for 87.

Tooradin at home to Devon Meadows lost the toss and was asked to bowl.
Matt Thompson was the first to strike with the score on nine.
Then Devon Meadows had three retire to make the score when they finished 4/106.
The pick of the bowlers was Ash Miller with 3/17 off five overs.
In reply the Seagulls failed to make the runs. The top scorer was Mick Millar on 21 who was the only batsman to make double figures.

Tooradin had a number of players nominated into the top 30 at the West Gippsland Cricket Association’s (WGCA) successful Jubilee night on Saturday, 6 December.
They were Greg Bethune, Alec Duff, Ron Ingram, Wayne Martin and Peter O’Hare.
Both Alec Duff and Ron Ingram were selected in the Jubilee Team.
Tooradin congratulations all players who have been great cricketers in the WGCA.
The Seagulls were well represented on the night with life members, Trevor Butcher and Ian Duff supported by Terry Evans, Rick Holland, Peter Butler, Grant Kernot and Barry Freeman.
Photos were taken of players in the 1977-78 A-grade premiership team and consisted of Ron Ingram, Alec Duff, Terry Duff, Ian Duff and Trevor Butcher.
