Global voices close to home

FROM Berwick to Cambodia and beyond, people received money over the past year from the members of Soroptimist International Berwick.
Among the recipients of Soroptimist funds and services were St Vincent de Paul, Casey Aged Care, Guide Dogs Victoria, and Berwick Benevolent Society.
The members also had a part in assisting the homeless soccer team who visited Melbourne to compete last year, the Soroptimists providing tourist opportunities for the players, which included visits to the Melbourne Zoo and Puffing Billy steam train.
Soroptimist money raised in and around Berwick through the group’s fundraising efforts also went to the international project Hands Across Borders in Cambodia.
Members visited Cambodia last year to see the project in action and to lend a hand in the village schools.
Soroptimist International is a women’s service club providing support at home and abroad through its programs in education, health, equal opportunity, human rights, and the environment.
“It is truly a global voice for women,” member Kay Drysdale said.
