BIRTHDAY celebrations were in order at Salisbury House nursing home in Upper Beaconsfield on Saturday as resident Eileen Davis turned 102.
Eileen was born in South Gippsland and spent her childhood years on a dairy farm at Kardella South.
Life more than a century ago was tough, but Eileen has many happy times to remember, like the long walks to school, horse riding, and catching eels from the creeks, which her mother would cook in butter – perhaps a recipe for longevity.
Eileen’s family and the nursing staff at Salisbury House joined in the celebrations on Saturday.
“She has great faith in prayer and thanks God for her long and interesting life,” they said.
Eileen enjoys dressing up and going out to dinner with family and friends, and she is able to find much pleasure in her grandchildren Bernadette and Paul and great-grandson Kai.
