DANIEL Morrison blasted one of the fastest centuries in the history of the WGCA with a sizzling 136 from just 71 balls to guide Nyora to the formidable total of 367 against Merinda Park in B-grade on Saturday.
Such was the devastation of Morrison’s innings that his century was made from just 38 balls and came in the eleventh over of the innings.
His knock against the Cobras included 18 boundaries and five sixes, including five fours from the first five balls of the second over, his 50 coming from just 18 balls.
Together with Jack Morris (32), the pair put on an opening partnership of 151 before Nick Fairbank (68) and Rory Gilliatte (65 not-out) saw Nyora to 4/367 from 56 overs before declaring its innings closed.
Merinda Park then lost two late wickets to be reeling at 2/49 from 21 overs at stumps, with Fairbank and Kelvin Toogood each picking up a wicket.
Emerald has given itself every opportunity of claiming an outright victory against Tooradin after claiming first-innings points on day one, dismissing the Seagulls for just 84.
After being promoted from C-grade, Anthony Flint bowled sensationally for the Bombers, taking the figures of 4/21 from nine overs, while captain Clinton Marsh again bowled well to take three wickets, taking his season tally to 30.
In reply, an unbeaten 36 to Andrew Walker guided the Bombers to victory with the home side finishing the day at 2/93 from 35 overs.
Lyndhurst’s middle-order will need to fire if it’s to chase down Cardinia’s total of 241 after the Vikings lost three wickets in reply late on day one to be 3/71 from 19 overs at stumps.
On an extremely fast ground at Lyndhurst, the Bulls capitalised on the conditions to post an extremely competitive total; however, no individual scores were available when this report was written.
At Upper Beaconsfield the Maroons missed several chances, allowing Lang Lang to post the very competitive total of 174 with Daniel Brennan and Scott Pitcher sharing the wickets before the home side reached 0/10 at stumps.
Beaconsfield compiled 195 against Clyde before the Cougars stumbled to 1/8 from three overs in reply.
Earlier, youngster Jordan Andrews top scored for the Tigers with a well-made 37, while Daniel Waite was the pick of the Clyde bowlers taking 3/41 from 15 overs.
An excellent 73 from Sean Sommers and 54 from Daniel Glen helped Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll to 216 from 69.1 overs against Cranbourne Meadows.
It then lost an early wicket to be 1/23 at stumps in reply, setting up a fantastic finish to the game this week, with the Rebels desperately seeking a morale-boosting first win of the season.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:C GRADE

A magnificent century from Andrew Shipp helped Gembrook reach 9/315 against Devon Meadows, with the number-four batsman’s innings of 112 including 12 boundaries and two sixes.
Shipp was well supported by captain Andrew Hilder who made 56, while Dean Allcott contributed a fine 62.
Michael Aughtie was the pick of the Devon Meadows bowlers, taking four wickets with under-17 bowler Chris Morrell also taking the excellent figures of 3/41 from ten overs.
Clayton Blair made his debut century of the season when he compiled 100 runs against Pakenham, enabling Clyde to post the formidable total of 6/295 from its 70 overs.
Blair batted for almost the entire Cougar innings, arriving when the score was 2/20 and departing when it reached 230.
Some late-innings hitting from Bradley Goodman (60 not-out) saw Clyde’s total continue to rise, despite the best efforts of Lions’ bowlers Andrew Ratcliffe (3/48 from 12 overs) and Sean Bell (2/26 from eight overs).
Upper Beaconsfield batsman Matt Scanlon made a match-saving 89 for the Marooons who had earlier looked in trouble at 4/38.
Scanlon combined with under-17 Tom Jennings (24) and under-15 Matt Hutson (16 not-out) to help the visitors to 221 from 63 overs, before Officer made a blistering start to its innings by scoring 28 runs without loss from just four overs.
Kooweerup recovered from 5/55 to post an extremely competitive total of 211 at Catani Recreation Reserve, with David Lennon top scoring for the Demons with a fine 42.
Catani opening bowler David Spierings was the best of the Blues’ bowlers, taking 4/58 from 18 overs, while under-17 wicketkeeper Ben Ahern had a rewarding game behind the stumps, gloving five catches.
An opening partnership of 162 between Justin Harris (93) and Brett Carey (65) saw Pakenham Upper-Toomuc (PUT) amass 9/308 against Merinda Park.
John Miller also contributed 44 with the bat for the Yabbies, while Chris Blake and Matthew Boswell each claimed three wickets for the Cobras.
A half-century from Beaconsfield under-17 batsman Damien Johnston saved the Tigers from embarrassment against Emerald, being dismissed for 122 from 65 overs.
Johnston’s 50 was the only highlight for the Tigers, with Euan Thoms picking up three wickets for the Bombers in just his second game of the season.
In reply, the Bombers reached 0/3 at stumps from two overs with David Alenson and Nick Jansen the not-out batsmen.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:D GRADE

A match-winning performance from Emerald’s Derek Scott saw the Bombers claim first-innings points against Cardinia at Rythdale Recreation Reserve.
Scott took four wickets with the ball to help dismiss the Bulls for just 114 in the 37th over before blasting 76 not-out with the bat to guide the visitors to 2/132 at stumps from 30 overs.
Gary Quinlan was the best of the Cardinia batsmen, scoring 46, while Emerald’s other opening bowler Lee Ligtermoet claimed the handy figures of 3/43 from 13 overs.
Tooradin’s Adam Richmond compiled an excellent 93 not-out in his side’s superb total of 5/260 against PUT.
Richmond was well supported by opening batsman Peter Stone, who scored 59 runs, taking his season total to 338.
PUT bowler Matthew Failla was the only Yabbie bowler to taste any real success with the ball, taking the figures of 2/60 from 14 overs.
Beaconsfield looks to have wrapped up first-innings points against Cranbourne Meadows after declaring its innings closed at 4/199 and having the Rebels reeling at 8/45 in reply.
Dean Doyle (66 not-out) and Glenn Taylor (65) set up an impressive day for the Tigers with the bat, before Greg Butler tore through the Rebels’ line-up, taking 3/16 from four overs.
Much like its B-grade side, Nyora’s C-grade outfit scored quick runs against Merinda Park, being dismissed for 245 from 56 overs.
Peter Jensen made a fine 59 before tea for the Maroons, while Paul Hendry also contributed an excellent 45.
Merinda Park opening bowler Jace Field picked up four wickets in an impressive display for the Cobras, who reached 0/15 in reply from ten overs.
Kooweerup is well placed to claim victory against Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll after dismissing the Marygoons for 123 before reaching 1/41 in reply overnight.
Jason Siegel was the star with the ball for the Demons, claiming the figures of 4/26 from nine overs, with Colin Hodson the best of the Marygoons’ batsmen scoring 38 not-out.
Pakenham also looks set to take first-innings points in its match against Kilcunda-Bass after dismissing the Sharks for just 84 from 44.2 overs.
In reply, the Lions reached 2/56 at stumps, while earlier Gary Sewell picked up five wickets for the home side.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:E GRADE

A sensational all-round team performance from Tooradin saw the Seagulls eventually dismissed for 330 from 62.4 overs against Pakenham.
Glenn McKay (69 not-out), Daniel Quinn (60) and Ryan Brown all scored half-centuries for the Seagulls, while James Mott was the best of the Lions’ bowlers – taking three wickets.
Gembrook has already achieved a comprehensive victory in its match against Lang Lang, after the home side dismissed the visitors for just 43 before reaching 0/133 in reply.
William Davis bowled superbly for Gembrook to claim the figures of 4/14 from 11 overs, while Mark Edwards (66 not-out) and Ruth Bardwell (48 not-out) guided the home side to victory.
Emerald amassed the extremely competitive total of 239 in its match against Clyde, on the back of half-centuries from Kade Ely and youngster Geordie Scott.
Matt Venning was the best of the Cougars’ bowlers, taking four wickets.
Devon Meadows looks poised to claim victory against Upper Beaconsfield after dismissing the Maroons for 166 and reaching 1/75 at stumps in reply. Andy Haythorpe was the only Maroon batsman to post any significant score with 30 runs, while Darren Logan claimed an excellent five-wicket haul for the Panthers.
Beaconsfield compiled 9/176 against Lyndhurst after being in trouble at 6/44, with some late-innings hitting from Russell Vincent (44) and Shaun Sinclair, seeing the Tigers to a respectable total.
Sixty-five runs from Chris Gunton saw PUT score 232 against Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll, despite four wickets from John Preen.
No scores were available from Cranbourne Meadows’ total of 7/263 against Officer at the time of writing this report.
