PAKENHAM Upper stalwart Jack Buckland celebrated his 90th birthday with a family luncheon last Saturday.
All but two of Mr Buckland’s eight children, 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren made it to the Pakenham Upper Hall on 24 January, with some coming from as far as Brisbane and Canberra.
Mr Buckland, a World War II veteran, first moved to Pakenham South with his family when he was 14.
The flood of 1934 encouraged the Bucklands to move to the hills of Pakenham Upper, where Mr Buckland went on to grow cabbages and later had an orchard.
Mr Buckland credits his healthy lifestyle and good genes with making it to 90.
“At my 80th birthday party I told everyone I’d see them in 10 years,” he said.
“Now that I’m 90, I may as well keep going to 100.”
