Show keeps close eye on heat

THE Berwick Show Society will meet the CFA on Monday to discuss how extreme heat or total fire bans may affect the Berwick Show.
The president of the Berwick and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society, Gordon Cumming, said the safety of members, exhibitors and the general public was paramount.
“In the view of the significant adverse weather we have been experiencing, and the potential for more hot weather in the future, the committee felt it prudent to hold a meeting to discuss the situation,” he said.
“We are working closely with local fire brigades to ensure we have the best possible information so that informed decisions can be made.
“Organisation of the show is proceeding at a rapid rate.”
The show is on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March.
Heat similar to that of Black Saturday or other recent hot days would require urgent safety measures.
Exhibitors are advised to watch newspapers for notices and check the society website, www.berwickshow.org.au
The Berwick and District Agricultural Show is one of the oldest and biggest agricultural shows in Victoria.
Held at Akoonah Park, it attracts thousands of exhibitors and patrons each year.
