Councillor holds concert for bushfire relief appeal

CASEY Council’s ‘minister for the arts’ River Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith has been quick to set up a fund-raising concert for the bush fire relief appeal.
Few people haven’t done something to help and most of us still have the disaster weighing heavily on our minds.
The concert is set for Saturday 4 April at Hillcrest Christian College, Soldiers Road, Clyde.
Cr Smith said the event would involve entertainment on two stages,
One will be outdoors from 3 to 6pm and one indoors from 3.30 to 10pm with lots of activities including face painting, jumping castles and sausage sizzles.
This is a big undertaking and the organising team will need lots of support to make it a real success both as a community building activity and a fund-raiser.
Such concerts generate a bonding in society that brings everyone together in support during times of disaster.
Organisers expect up to 3000 to attend during the seven hours.
Cr Smith said because of the event’s importance the City of Casey had made it an official council and this means more support.
“But we still need more,” he says.
Cr Smith needs people and organisations for the provision of entertainment, stalls, gate and doorkeepers, car-parking assistants, face-painting, vendors for coffee, ice-cream and other sales, children’s activities, pony rides, handball competitions, a truck for the outdoor stage, portable toilets, poster signage and program design, security guards, first aid services, and shuttle bus drivers.
