Never give up: Demons

MELBOURNE Australian Football League (AFL) players Aaron Davey and Matthew Warnock called at St Michael’s School Berwick last week to speak with children at the school.
Who knows, their visit could be an inspiration for one of the youngsters to try just that little bit harder at footy, and eventually join the AFL ranks.
Elite sportsmanship is at its best when star players pass on inspiration to children.
But their message was about more than becoming a top footballer – it was about doing one’s best in all fields of endeavour.
Melbourne is the oldest club in the AFL and is negotiating with the City of Casey to become established at Casey Fields Cranbourne.
What a great win for the City of Casey if the council can provide a home for this AFL team so that our youngsters mix often with top players such as Aaron Davey and Matthew Warnock.
Melbourne operations manager Chris Connolly told me that Melbourne had not before had a community to work with.
Melbourne by its nature, over the years, has been centred in a commercial and business area with a low residential population and within that a small percentage of children in their formative years.
Although arrangements for the club to be based at Casey Fields have not been signed and sealed, the club has started its commitment to community building and involvement in Casey.
This is a big win for Casey residents and hopefully a big win for the Melbourne Football Club.
The players spoke to children about their football lives and leadership, their training regimes, how they started in football, and what they planned for their futures after football.
They offered the message that once you decide what your goal is in life, don’t lose sight of it and don’t feel discouraged if things don’t go to plan.
Just keep working at it.
