The magic of model railways

MODEL trains are one of those fascinating hobbies enjoyed by people of all ages and genders.
Over the Labour Day long weekend from Saturday, 7 March to Monday, 9 March there will be more than 40 layouts on display at the Model Railway Exhibition 2009 at the Sandown Racecourse.
Ranging from small layouts to huge ones they come from interstate, overseas and local enthusiasts.
The exhibition is held in the Light Finger Room at the Sandown Racecourse (entry through Gate 2).
This enormous space will be full to overflowing – not only with layouts, but also with demonstrations of how to build layouts, scenery, building and locomotives.
Stands by Puffing Billy Preservation Society, a number of other local preservation groups and trade stands are also accommodated.
Visitors can enjoy air-conditioned comfort at the exhibition, together with carpet and excellent indirect lighting.
Parking is not a problem with more than 5000 free parking spaces right at the entrance to the exhibition.
Sandown has its own flyover for easy access from the Princes Highway at Noble Park (opposite Springvale Crematorium) plus there is the Sandown Park railway station right at the racecourse. Very good catering is available over the three days.
Children will love the rides, while parents enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
The annual model railway exhibition is a great day out for all the family and very reasonably priced at $7 for adults and $4 for children aged four to 16 (under four free).
A free magazine will be offered to all groups entering the exhibition.
This will be the latest issue of Model Railways in Australia. Always good value, the magazine retails for $5.
