AN independent Christian college in Officer opened its doors for the first time last week.
Thirty senior school students began classes at Heritage College on Thursday, after relocating from the school’s existing campus in Narre Warren South.
Heritage College Officer principal Colin Gallagher said the campus would grow over the next three years.
“We’ve brought out the senior kids this year and over the next three years we’ll bring out the rest (secondary students),” he said.
Mr Gallagher said a primary school would be established at the Starling Road campus after that.
He said there would eventually be about 850 students between the two campuses.
Mr Gallagher said the college decided to spread its wings after the Narre Warren South campus, which opened in 1999, was getting overcrowded.
“It’s part of our philosophy we get to know all the families,” he said.
The Officer campus boasts science labs, general classrooms, amenities and a library at a modern-looking facility set on eight hectares.
