SCENES for a movie about a World War I hero were shot at Lang Lang Rifle Club on Saturday.
The film will tell the story of William Edward “Billy” Sing, a Distinguished Conduct Medal-winning sniper.
Mr Sing, who died in 1943, was well known for his shooting skills at Proserpine Rifle Club in Queensland before joining the Australian Army in 1914.
Those skills became legendary during Australia’s Gallipoli campaign between 1915 and 1916.
He was medically discharged after four years’ service in 1918 and died of a ruptured aorta as a 57-year-old.
Lang Lang Rifle Club captain Laurie Thompson, whose 21-year-old son Shane is a three-time Victorian champion, was thrilled his club was a part of the movie.
“There is plenty of nice scrub and trees – just like the old days – at the club and we have just about the biggest rifle range around,” Mr Thompson said.
The rifle club hosts competitions every month and officials will hold an open day in the next month for its new “small ball” facilities.
