MOTORISTS who live in Cardinia Shire can now get two wheels up on their nature strip.
The council has introduced a new local law to allow residents to park a vehicle on the nature strip outside their own property – but only two wheels can touch the grass.
No heavy vehicles are permitted to do this and the parked vehicle must not obstruct the footpath.
Residents are also responsible for the costs of repairs to the nature strip if any damage is caused.
The introduction of the new local law comes after council last year waived 12 fines issued to McGregor Road residents who parked on their nature strips.
The residents, who lived in a service lane, said they had no alternative but to park on their nature strip because the road was too narrow.
Casey, Melton, Yarra Ranges and Whittlesea councils allow residents to park on the nature strip outside their own property on the understanding that they are responsible for repairing any damage caused.
